William Kroll's De Oraculis
Chaldaicis, published in the Breslauer philologische Abhndlungen
(VII,1.) in 1894 was a landmark in the study of the Chaldean
Oracles.
The work is the primary source of
the Des Places text and the textual context from the original ancient
author quoting the Oracle fragments in the standard English
translation of Ruth Majercik. G.R.S. Mead also used Kroll's text for
his English translation.
All versions of the Oracles
subsequent to Kroll's work reference the Kroll page numbers and before
the Des Place numbering system, Kroll page numbers were the standard
way of referencing the Oracles.
In light of its philological
importance I have have produced an electronic facsimile of Kroll's
work. For ease of reference this I have arranged them below by page
number in JPEG format with the standard Des Places numbering to aid in
cross-referencing. I have also produced a PDF version of the work. Due
to the large size of this PDF document (13Meg), please
email me if you would like
me to make this available to you.
